Aluminium 7050 is an aircraft-strength alloy consisting mostly of zinc (approximately 6.2%), magnesium (2.3%), and copper (2.3%), together with minute amounts of chromium, iron, and silicon for performance enhancement. This alloying composition provides Aluminium 7050 with superior mechanical properties such as a tensile strength of around 510 MPa and yield strength of around 440 MPa. Its hardness is normally in the order of 150 HB. Resistant to stress corrosion cracking and possessing good toughness, Aluminium 7050 plates and sheets are heat-treatable, offering higher strength and endurance well-suited for severe structural uses.
