Sheets and plates of UK‘s Aluminium 2017 contain mostly aluminium alloyed with copper, manganese, and a few trace elements to add strength and machinability. The alloy normally includes approximately 3.5-4.5% copper, 0.3-0.9% manganese, and traces of silicon, iron, and magnesium. The mechanical characteristics are high tensile strength (approximately 450 MPa), good fatigue life, and moderate corrosion resistance. The sheets and plates have good machinability, thus well-suited for precision engineering and structural uses where strong, lightweight materials are demanded.
